Cheek is a series of harsh images and videos from Syria published in the media.  Between 2011 and 2013, Akram Al-Halabi was writing on this footage, describing what he saw in the images themselves, such as words or names of places, in order to avoid oblivion.

    Born in Majdal-Shams in the Golan Heights in 1981, lives in Vienna.

    Akram Al-Halabi graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus. He came to Vienna in 2007 to attend the Academy of Fine Arts and was also an exchange student at the Academy of Fine Arts Umea (Sweden). He has been pursuing an MA at the Film Academy in Vienna since 2015.

    Al-Halabi regularly participates in collective exhibitions, including at the Institute of Islamic Culture, Paris, Berlin’s Forum Factory, DEPO in Istanbul, the Palazzo Museum in Bolognaas well as the A.M.Qattan Foundation in London.
